What are my rights when buying a used camper?

When you buy from a dealer (a business), Polish and EU law gives you at least 12 months of the seller's liability for non-conformity of the goods with the contract — hidden defects the vehicle had at handover are the dealer's responsibility. In a private sale this statutory protection is much narrower and the contract terms matter far more, so read them carefully. Under the EU Omnibus Directive, any announced price reduction must state the lowest price from the 30 days before the promotion. What should I check before buying?

Before you sign anything or pay a deposit, verify the vehicle in person. A one-hour inspection prevents most bad purchases:

• Check the VIN and the vehicle history in official registers and paid vehicle-history reports.
• Inspect for damp and water ingress — stains, soft wall panels and a musty smell are warning signs in campers.
• Ask for the full service history and check stamps and invoices against the mileage.
• Take a test drive, including at highway speed, and listen to the engine, gearbox and suspension.
• Have the gas and electrical installations inspected by a qualified technician.
• Sign a written purchase contract that lists the vehicle's condition, equipment and any known defects.

How do I pay safely?

Never wire a deposit to a seller you have not verified — pressure to pay up front is a classic scam pattern. Prefer paying at an in-person handover, after inspecting the vehicle and the documents. For high-value purchases, consider an escrow service or a notary deposit so the money is released only when the vehicle and its papers change hands.

If a listing looks fraudulent, is misdescribed, or pressures you into an unsafe payment, report it to us — our moderation team reviews every report.
